The Dragon Spout

Genre : Natural Wonders

Area : Yuya & Heki

A extraordinary sight in which the ocean waves strike the cliffside and rise up vertically before your eyes!

Best viewed in the winter, this water spout phenomenon is caused by the northern winds blasting a spray of ocean water up to a maximum height of 30 meters into the air, making it visible from a fair distance. The spout looks almost as though Ryugu, a dragon god living under the sea, had blasted a great spurt of water up towards the sky. The sight of the falling droplets reflecting like silver sand against the sunlight is also a treat for visitors.
The story of the undersea dragon has been popular with the local for many years, and during droughts many came here to pray to the dragon god for rain.
