This outdoor performing space is a nationally-designated Important Tangible Cultural Property

Akasaki Shrine's Natural Amphitheater is a bowl-shaped outdoor space, cleverly used for performance of the arts. It is said that the current shape of the amphitheater has been in existence since the Edo Period (1603-1868). Today, many visitors come to the shrine in September to view performances of the traditional Gaku and Yumoto Nanjo dances, which have been held annually since 1596.

Akasaki Festival will be held annually on September 10th
