Take in the modern paintings at the Yazuo Kazuki Art Museum
Nagato-born artist Yasuo Kazuki left a great impact on the world of modern art with his paintings. Many of the artist’s pieces are collected and displayed here in his hometown.
The herb garden beside the Yasuo Kazuki Art Museum contains nearly 80 different plant species, offering different blooms with each season.

Taste freshly-caught squid at Isaji
Nagato’s annual catch of swordtip squid is top-class in Japan. Why not savor a bite of this “Senzaki squid” at Isaji, where the squid is served as fresh as possible?
The castle town of Hagi remains today as it stood in the closing years of the Tokugawa Shogunate in the 1950s., lined with chalk-white buildings with the traditional grid “namako” pattern.

Opened in 1996, the Hagi Museum displays beautiful pieces of oriental ceramics and “ukiyo-e” woodblock prints (also known as “images of the floating world”). Works on display include reknowned woodblock artists such as Utagawa Hiroshige, Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, and many exquisite examples of Hagi-style pottery.
