Akasaki Shrine's Natural Amphitheater is a bowl-shaped outdoor space, cleverly used for performance of the arts. It is said that the current shape of the amphitheater has been in existence since the Edo Period (1603-1868). Today, many visitors come to the shrine in September to view performances of the traditional Gaku and Yumoto Nanjo dances, which have been held annually since 1596.
